From September 18th to 19th, 2023, the United Nations convened the SDG Summit 2023 in New York, providing a platform for global leaders to assess the progress of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The culmination of this event occurred at the UN Headquarters in New York during a pivotal General Assembly, where the official adoption of the SDG Summit declaration marked a significant stride in the ongoing pursuit of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) worldwide.
It is imperative, however, to recognize that the day preceding this historic moment saw a coalition of nations, including Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Eritrea, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Nicaragua, the Russian Federation, the Syrian Arab Republic, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe, expressing their opposition to the formal adoption of the draft declaration.
